Department of Bread Products and Processing Industries Technology

The Department of Bread Products and Processing Industries Technology was established in 1967 on the basis of the Department of Special Technologies and is a specialized department of Almaty Technological University.
The first graduation of specialists took place in 1971. Graduates received the qualification of process engineers in grain storage and processing.

The academic staff of the department consists of highly qualified scientists and specialists with extensive scientific, pedagogical, and industrial experience. The department has 38 faculty members, including 27 full-time lecturers. The department employs 7 Doctors of Science, 8 Candidates of Science, 14 PhD holders, and Master's degree holders.

Over the years, the department was headed by renowned scientists and educators: L.I. Dzhumagulova, T.D. Bayarstanov, B.K. Idgeev, M.G. Roslyakov, K.B. Baibolov, A.I. Iztaev, G.K. Iskakova, S.T. Zhienbayeva, and E.B. Askarbekov. Currently, the Head of the Department is Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor Meruert Baiysbay.

Scientists and staff of the department annually undertake internships at leading food industry enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as at universities and research centers in Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, Spain, and other countries.

The department includes:

  • 2 holders of the badge “Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan”;
  • 3 holders of the badge “For Contribution to the Development of Science”;
  • 11 recipients of the “Best University Teacher” grant awarded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • Recipients of the international “Bolashak” scholarship;
  • Recipients of the “Zhas Galym” (Young Scientist) grant.

The department’s scientists successfully combine the training of specialists in food technology with scientific research and the preparation of scientific and pedagogical personnel.

Training is carried out through a three-level education system: Bachelor’s Degree – Master’s Degree – Doctoral Degree.

The Bachelor’s educational program 6B07202 – Technology of Processing Industries (Food Industry) received international accreditation from ASIIN (Germany) in 2012 and successfully passed reaccreditation in 2017 and 2024, granting graduates the right to receive the European quality label for engineering education EUR-ACE®.

 

The Master’s and Doctoral educational programs in Technology of Processing Industries were internationally accredited by ASIIN (Germany) in 2017 and 2025.

According to the rankings of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR), the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA), and the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral educational programs in Technology of Processing Industries annually occupy leading positions among higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Department of Bread Products and Processing Industries Technology annually occupies leading positions in the ranking of departments of Almaty Technological University and makes a significant contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists for the food and processing industries of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The teaching staff of the department annually take advanced training courses and scientific internships at partner universities and research institutes of far and near abroad, industrial internships at leading food enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participate in scientific and methodological seminars and conferences, exhibitions

Teachers are trained according to the educational program of the doctoral program "Crop processing technology" and successfully defend their doctoral dissertations.

Currently, the department provides training in the 3-level Bachelor-Master-PhD system, taking into account the requirements of the Bologna Process and standards for accreditation of engineering programs within the framework of the EUR-ACE project (European Accredited Engineer – European accredited engineer).

In 2012, the undergraduate educational program " Crop processing technology " passed international accreditation, in 2017 and 2024 it was re-accredited by the agency ASIIN (Germany) with the right to award the mark "Euro-engineer" (EUR-ACE®).

In 2017 and 2025, Master's and doctoral educational programs "Crop processing technology" received international accreditation from the agency ASIIN (Germany).

In the ratings of national agencies ("independent Kazakhstan agency for quality assurance in education" and "National Agency for accreditation and rating"), educational programs of Bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs "Crop processing technology" annually take the first places.

In 2020, 2023, 2024, the participants of the iaar rating among higher educational institutions ATU group of educational programs b068 food production took the 1st place!

 In 2021 and 2023, 2024, 2025, among the universities participating in the Atameken rating, the educational program "Crop processing technology" took 1st place!

In 2022, the ATU group of food production educational programs В068 entered the" top-10 " educational programs of the institutional rating of universities!

According to the results of the rating among the Departments of shooting, the Department "bakery products and technology of Processing Industries" occupies a leading position.

Scientists of the department successfully combine the training of specialists in food technology with the conduct of scientific research and the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel.
